The Office of Graduate International Outreach (OGIO) was established in July, 2011. The focus on international outreach is aligned with the University of Florida’s mission in creating a “broadly diverse environment necessary to foster multicultural skills and perspectives in teaching and research for its students to contribute and succeed in the 21 century”. OGIO serves as a catalyst for collaboration, leveraging existing structures and opportunities in the interest of international outreach and student success. Specifically, the unit assists doctoral students in identifying international teaching opportunities. With Florida’s geographical location, Latin America has been identified as a target for OGIO’s recruitment efforts, through the formation of agreements with sponsoring agencies to enroll Latin American graduate students with government funding. We are identifying all international applicants with external support from government and private fellowship sources as the Fulbright program and from other targeted countries. There is a growing interest in South Africa.
