Release Date: January 05 2023

Writing coach and editor Dr. Vernetta Mosley, founder of Cultivate the Writer

Learn how to get to the point in “State It Succinctly: Eliminating Wordiness From Writing” — the Spring 2023 Dissertation Writing Workshop (DWW) from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 19, 2023 online via Zoom.

Hosted by the Office of Graduate Diversity Initiatives (OGDI) in the UF Graduate School, this workshop features expert Dr. Vernetta Mosley — writing coach, editor and founder of Cultivate the Writer — whose mission is to teach others to communicate efficiently and effectively through the written word.

While some words that writers use are grammatically correct, they impede a reader’s ability to comprehend the information presented. This workshop will focus on strategies for being more concise when writing, giving specific examples as well as distinguishing between style and grammar correctness. Participants will learn how to:

  • Understand style issues that make a document wordy.
  • Learn common words and phrases that impede conciseness.
  • Pinpoint ways to eliminate redundancy in writing.
